This impressive bronze figure was crafted by the Mon people in the Thai Dvaravati period in the 8th-11th century. Buddha stands in the upright samabhanga position with his feet pointing forward. Both hands form the vitarka mudra, the gesture of explanation, with the thumb and forefinger. Buddha wears a simple monk’s robe kasaya. Small, tapered curls and a dome-shaped ushnisha adorn his head.
Buddha comes from an old Dutch collection.
