Jepara shipwreck celadon bowl from the Song Dynasty (10th-12th century)

• It is coated in a greyisch qingbai type of glaze, the foot remains unglazed showing the pale porcelaneous body. The inner surface is decorated with incised floral patterns with small pieces of kiln grit embedded within the glaze. It has a slightly "frosted" feel of the glaze because laying in the sea wreck for hundreds of years.

• The Jepara wreck was discovered north of the Central Java coast after local fishermen discovered ceramic shards in the area, which were analysed and found to be Song porcelain. Though very little of the wreck itself remained, the following excavations by a salvage team in 1998 unearthed over 10,000 ceramic pieces along with other artefacts.
