Old Lumi money stick, Sepik PNG, 1st qtr 20th Century

• A sensational old Lumi money stick such as this are highly regarded by the people of Lumi and are used in exchange of land or as bride price. The number of shells used upon the stick represents the wealth and prestige of its owner. The money sticks are passed down through generations upon which more shells are added. 
• This stick hold mostly rings of shell but also some glass rings. 2 of these are large (7 cm diameter) opaque glass rings from the German colonial period pre 1914.
• This money stick has an additional band with shells fitted on the stick which is rare.
